Cuesta de El Portezuelo (RP 2)
Catamarca
If you want to reach the top of the mountains, this scenic route in the southeast of
Catamarca will amaze you with its more than 300 curves and its colours: intense
green shades in summer, and deep ochre tones in winter.
Eighteen kilometres from San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca city, you will gain
altitude along Ancasti Sierra landscapes, until you reach a viewpoint at 1,070 metres
above sea level, where a monument to “Paisaje de Catamarca”, the most
representative zambo song of the province, stands. In this place, you will be able to
pause to contemplate the massive view of the Central Valley and its undulating
mountains with a thousand green shades. Once again on the road, the path
continues up to 1,680 metres, where grasslands reign. From here, the route
becomes a long and smooth slide that takes you back from heaven to the earth.
