What to see
Trekking and mountaineering amid birds
The park is ideal for trekking, mountaineering and bird watching, as it protects the Tromen lagoon and the Los Barros marshland, two wetlands chosen by many water and migratory birds (it has been a Ramsar site since 2006).
A trekking path surrounds the lagoon (approximately 4 hours long) and another trail surrounds the marshland (approximately 2 hours).
Ascent to Tromen
It is the second highest peak in Patagonia. The tours usually last 3 days and are carried out with qualified guides. It is about a 5-hour walk to the high camp at approximately 3,100 m.a.s.l., and the next day, the ascent to the summit at 4,114 m.a.s.l.
Trekking and mountain bike
In addition to the ascent to the volcano, you can trek and bike to the Yesera del Tromen lagoon from the town of Buta Ranquil, going through a landscape of gypsum, limestone, anhydrite and asphaltite. Check for authorized guides.
Transhumance culture
A great cultural attraction is the presence of rural residents who practise transhumance cattle breeding of goats, sheep, cows, horses and mules, following the ancestral trails of ancient muleteers.
