Touch meteorites at Campo del Cielo
More than 6 thousand years ago an asteroid exploded in the atmosphere and caused a meteor shower. Where did meteorites fall? At Campo del Cielo, between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. In this open-air theme park and museum, you will find and be able to touch metallic bodies that weigh more than 30 tons and that spread out over an area of 150 kilometres when they hit the Earth’s surface.
Find the third heaviest meteorite in the world among quebracho and carob forests. Visit the interpretation centre, which hosts 300 meteorites and an interactive exhibition that will enable you to relive the cosmic cataclysm. If you want to enjoy this place to the fullest, visit it in September to attend the Meteorite Festival.
Where: At Piguen N'Onaxa Cultural Nature Reserve - Campo del Cielo, 12 kilometres away from the city of Gancedo (Chaco)
